Vikings hired former Cowboys assistant special teams coach Matt Daniels for the team’s special teams coordinator position.
Daniels will join Minnesota’s revamped coaching staff after two seasons with Dallas. A former Rams safety, Daniels will take over a Vikings special teams unit graded by Pro Football Focus as the ninth best in 2021.

Rams undrafted rookie S Matt Daniels underwent arthroscopic knee surgery just prior to the draft.
This may have contributed to his UDFA status. The surgery was performed just over seven weeks ago, and Daniels is sitting out OTAs. A fourth- or fifth-round prospect pre-injury, Daniels will battle for a roster spot when he heals up.

Reserve Rams S Matt Daniels likely suffered a season-ending knee injury in Sunday’s loss.
A pure special teamer, Daniels has one tackle in four games. A rookie UDFA out of Duke, he’ll likely struggle to make the team in 2012.

Coach Jeff Fisher confirmed that S Matt Daniels’ Week 8 knee injury is a season-ending ACL tear.
He will be placed on injured reserve. The special teamer out of Duke had just one tackle in four games this season.
  • According to StLouisRams.com, OG Rokevious Watkins (ankle) and S Matt Daniels (torn ACL) should be “ready to go” for the Rams’ offseason program.
The No. 150 pick of last year’s draft, Watkins reported to camp 16 pounds overweight, but played 37 snaps in Week 1. He was placed on injured reserve after missing Week 2. Watkins will compete for a starting job in camp, but should be one of many options at left guard. He has a ways to go as a pass blocker. Daniels is a pure special teamer.

Rams S Matt Daniels needs ankle surgery and is likely done for the season.
Daniels was carted off the field with his right leg in an air cast following a first-quarter kickoff in Sunday’s loss to the Falcons. The second-year safety is purely a special teams player. Daniels tore his ACL last season.

Daniels was injured on the kickoff following the Falcons’ opening-drive touchdown. The second-year undrafted safety is mainly used on special teams.

Rams placed S Matt Daniels on injured reserve with a fractured right ankle, ending his season.
Daniels was a gung-ho special teamer and reserve safety. The Rams claimed OT Mike Person off waivers to replace Daniels on the 53-man roster.
