Broncos vs. Chargers prediction: Odds, expert picks, QB matchup, injury update, betting trends, and stats

Practically a quarter of the way through the 2026 NFL season and results are amplified due to a team’s results through their first four games. Denver is 2-2 and while struggling to find any continuity on offense, they are right in the mix in the AFC West and the conference. The Chargers are a surprising 0-4 and on the brink of a completely lost season. The two division rivals meet Sunday in Los Angeles.

Denver is coming off a 24-14 loss to the 49ers last weekend. The game was tied at three at halftime. While the Broncos punchless offense continued in the second half, Brock Purdy and co. kicked things up a notch and scored three touchdowns to win going away. The offense has been lackluster for much of the season, but the loss followed a pair of impressive wins over the Rams and the Jaguars. Again, no time to panic in the Mile High City. Panic, however, must have a foothold in Southern California. The winless Chargers dropped their fourth in a row Sunday, a 30-23 loss at Seattle. Justin Herbert has been mediocre on his better days and that is an issue for Los Angeles. While the defense has been solid, Herbert and the offense have failed to score more than 16 points in three of their four games.

These teams last met on January 4, 2026, when Denver defeated Los Angeles 19-3 in Week 18. Before that, the Chargers won a thriller, 23-20, at SoFi Stadium on September 21 last season overcoming a late Broncos’ rally when Herbert engineered a game-tying touchdown drive and Cameron Dicker kicked the game-winning field goal as time expired.

Just as they were last year, the two starting quarterbacks will be the storyline when Denver and Los Angeles step on the field this weekend as each tries to perform at a higher and more consistent level than they have through the first quarter of the season.

Let’s dive into the numbers and see if we can’t find an additional sweat or two.

Our model calculates projections around each moneyline, spread and over/under bet for every game on the NFL calendar based on data points like past performance, player matchups, betting trends, and weather forecasts.

Once the model is finished running, we put its projection next to the latest betting lines for the game to arrive at a relative confidence level for each wager.

Here are the best bets our model is projecting for Sunday’s game between the Broncos and the Chargers:

  • Moneyline: NBC Sports is staying away from a play on the Moneyline.
  • Spread: NBC Sports is recommending a play on the Chargers +3.5.
  • Total: NBC Sports is leaning towards a play on the Game Total UNDER 42.5.

Here’s why the UNDER is worth a look:

Denver’s offense isn’t built to pile up points through the air. They move the ball through volume, not explosiveness. In addition, Bo Nix has been a problem. He’s 23rd in adjusted EPA per play and 27th in completion percentage over expected, and Denver is 26th in Net Yards per Play at -0.7. In addition, the Broncos’ run game has been poor this season, producing just 81.2 yards per game (4th worst), and they’re facing a Chargers’ defense that ranked 6th in carries allowed (24.47 per game) and 8th in rushing yards allowed (105.35 per game) last season. Much like Nix and the issues resulting from his poor play in Denver, Justin Herbert has been LA’s biggest problem. He’s completed just 59.7% of his passes for 816 passing yards, four touchdowns, and six interceptions to begin the season. That’s a 6:4 interception-to-touchdown ratio for a quarterback who was supposed to be an MVP candidate. The result? This is an offense that struggles to finish drives.
