Commanders vs. Eagles prediction: Odds, expert picks, QB matchup, injury update, betting trends, and stats

The 2026 NFL season opens in the City of Brotherly Love with NFC rivals Washington and Philadelphia meeting on the gridiron. The Eagles enter the year as the favorite to repeat atop the NFC East, while the Commanders are looking to rebound from an injury-plagued 2025 campaign.

Jalen Hurts and the Eagles finished last season 11-7. They were eliminated in the Wild Card round of the playoffs. Optimism abounds in Philly as the expectation is that new Offensive Coordinator Sean Mannion is expected to unlock Hurts and help him reach new heights. The Commanders were 5-12. Their leader, QB Jayden Daniels, played only seven games due to injury. Washington enters 2026 hoping Daniels can stay healthy behind an overhauled offensive line and take a major step forward.

While all eyes will be on Jayden Daniels to see what he looks like in his first action since the middle of last season, an NFC East battle inherently comes down to the trenches. Who wins along the offensive and defensive lines will determine the outcome. Washington’s revamped offensive line is healthy to start the season. They will need to be great from the jump to afford Daniels time to operate against an Eagles’ defense that may well be the top unit in the NFL. Philadelphia’s offensive line remains one of the strengths of their roster. Another test for Washington and the handful of new linemen the Commanders signed in the offseason. The Commanders added pass-rushing talent including Odafe Oweh and Charles Omenihu, hoping to generate more pressure than it did last season.

The rosters certainly favor the Eagles, but history suggests this rivalry is routinely a rock fight.

Let’s dive into the numbers and see if we can’t find a sweat or two.
