Chiefs selected Ball State CB Nic Jones with the No. 250 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.
Jones (5’11/189) enrolled at Ball State where he played 283 reps as a freshman and allowed a 65% completion rate. He battled injuries for the next two campaigns until 2022, when he finally turned in a full season breaking up 14 passes and being named Second Team All-MAC. Jones is slight of frame and needs to improve his play strength, which was made obvious when he put up just nine bench reps (20th%) and ran a pedestrian 4.51s 40-yard dash that was the 19th-best time in the 2023 CB group. His 32.325” arms helped him in press coverage and he’s got a good feel for timing when the ball is set to arrive. Jones plays fast, but gets washed out with regularity in run support and lacks the high-end jets to make-up ground. He has ample special teams experience, which should help his chances of making a roster.
