Seahawks HC Pete Carroll said OG Phil Haynes (calf) “should be back” in Week 9.
Haynes has missed the previous two contests as he tends to a calf injury. Carroll said he expects him to return to practice this week and be good to go for Week 9 against the Ravens. That’s good news for a Seattle run game that has struggled of late, particularly considering the difficult opponent and the fact that the Seahawks now sit atop the NFC West after three consecutive losses by the 49ers.
  • Seahawks signed OL Phil Haynes to a one-year extension through 2023.
Haynes was set to be a free agent after the highest-snap season of his career. The 27-year-old had a 57.1 PFF blocking rating and had not played more than 136 snaps before he got up to 485 last year, mostly splitting time at right guard and appearing in 14 games. He did deal with an ankle injury down the stretch. This is likely not a large contract.

  • Seahawks placed an original-round tender on restricted free agent OL Phil Haynes.
Haynes made two starts for Seattle last year and backs up at multiple spots on the interior line. The RFA tender will pay the 26-year-old $2.54 million in 2022.

  • Seahawks activated OG Phil Haynes from the reserve/PUP list.
The No. 124 overall pick of the draft, Haynes played some tackle in college but profiles as a professional guard. Haynes offers nastiness, mass, and untapped athletic upside as a developmental prospect.
  • Seahawks selected Wake Forest G Phil Haynes with the No. 124 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.
Haynes (6’4/322) manned right tackle as a Demon Deacons freshman, right guard as a sophomore, and left guard the rest of the way, earning second-team All-ACC as a senior and graduating as a four-year starter. Haynes helped himself at the Combine with 71st-percentile SPARQ results and 33 reps on the bench. A powerful guard with lateral-agility limitations, Haynes offers enough nastiness, mass, and untapped athletic upside to develop into a quality starter on the interior. He reportedly gained steam during the private workout circuit with position coaches.

  • NFL Draft Scout’s Rob Rang lists Wake Forest G Phil Haynes as his favorite guard that won’t go in the first-round in the 2019 NFL Draft class.
Haynes (6'4/322) has seen his stock really rise in the month of April, and has visited with several teams after performing solidly at the NFL scouting Combine and NFLPA Collegiate Bowl. “What I appreciate most about Haynes (a four-year starter) is that not only does he still have the balance and body control of a basketball player, he’s completely remade his body, now possessing as imposing and powerful of a frame as any blocker in this class,” writes Rang. At this point, we should expect to see Haynes name called before the end of Day 2, or at the latest, early on Day 3.
  • Wake Forest G Phil Haynes is visiting with the New Orleans Saints Thursday.
Haynes (6'4/322) shared a photo of his arrival at the team’s facility on his Instagram account, and it it’s also worth noting that this counts as one of the Saints’ 30 official pre-draft visits. The Wake Forest offensive lineman performed well at the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl and the NFL Scouting Combine, improving his standing as a mid-round pick. New Orleans does have some depth issues to address on the offensive line, so Haynes could be a fit there.
  • NFL Media’s Lance Zierlein believes Wake Forest G Phil Haynes has the tools to become a starter at right guard “within a year or two.”
Haynes (6'4/322) has a “well-proportioned frame” with ideal arm length, but Zierlein would like to see more fluidity in his movements. However, Haynes does enough to earn starting reps early in his career. At the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl, Haynes was called the best prospect and he went on to record 33 reps on the bench press at the NFL Scouting Combine. Haynes is a quality depth option that can be had in the middle rounds.
  • Wake Forest G Phil Haynes recorded 33 reps on the bench press at the NFL Scouting Combine.
Haynes (6'4/322) placed third among offensive linemen with his 33 reps on the bench press, topped only by Weber State’s Iosua Opeta (39) and NC State’s Garrett Bradbury (34). He impressed at the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl back in January, when Draft Analyst’s Tony Pauline referred to him as “far and away” the best prospect on hand in for what was a mostly forgettable assortment of game participants. Pauline views Haynes as a likely selection for the middle rounds on Day 3 when all is said and done.
