Vikings rookie quarterback Christian Ponder has had a hard time luring veteran players to Florida for lockout workouts. In large part because he’s a rookie quarterback.

But he finally has gotten a veteran to show up. Tight end Visanthe Shiancoe, who will have to fend off rookie second-rounder Kyle Rudolph, is in Florida working out with Ponder and Joe Webb, a sixth-round rookie in 2010 who could compete with Ponder for the starting job in 2011.

Per Jason La Canfora of NFL Network, Shiancoe recently joined the duo of quarterbacks. Their sessions have included strength and speed work, pass routes, and film study.

We really went over the playbook,” Shiancoe said.

The Vikings are installing a new offense under offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave. Previously, the team used the West Coast attack.

Though it’s good that Shiancoe is there, it would be even better if other offensive players were putting in the hours with the guys who’ll likely be atop the team’s depth chart once the lockout ends.
