Jets cornerback Antonio Cromartie gave himself a negative review after last Sunday’s loss to the Raiders and he’s on his way to another pan this Sunday against the Jaguars.
Cromartie got beaten on a double move by Jacksonville wide receiver Allen Hurns for a 30-yard touchdown just before halftime, cutting the Jets’ lead to 14-10 after two quarters at the Meadowlands. Blake Bortles and Hurns connected for 20 yards on the previous play as the Jags capitalized on a poor punt by Ryan Quigley after a half that saw the Jets defense generally bounce back from a bad game in Oakland.
They sacked Bortles twice and Darrelle Revis helped cause an interception by deflecting a pass that floated into Marcus Williams’s hands. That takeaway led to a short Chris Ivory touchdown run that came shortly after an Eric Decker touchdown pass put the Jets in front. Bortles also narrowly avoided a disaster when he lost the ball while trying to throw near his own end zone and recovered his fumble on the one-yard-line to keep the Jets from putting more points on the board.
The Jets got the ball at the Jaguars’ 37 at the end of that drive, but couldn’t score there either and that inability to move the ball could come back to haunt them in the second half. That’s especially true if Cromartie remains leaky on the outside of the defense.
