Texans quarterback Brock Osweiler said last week that he felt criticism of his play in the early weeks of this season is “hilarious” before throwing two more interceptions in last Sunday’s victory over the Titans.
That left Osweiler with six interceptions on the year, a number that’s been topped by only Ryan Fitzpatrick and Jameis Winston so far this season. With a game against a Vikings defense that has six interceptions of its own so far this season, coach Bill O’Brien was asked if he’s concerned about how often Osweiler’s passes are ending up in the hands of the other team.
“Am I concerned?’ No, I’m not,” O’Brien said, via ESPN.com. “I believe that it will get fixed. I think that overall Brock has played well for us. Other than the two interceptions, I thought the guy played a good football game for us [against Tennessee]. Got us into the right plays, good tempo, so we just need to stop turning the ball over and I think a lot goes into that. Not just one player.”
O’Brien blamed play calls for some of the picks while acknowledging that “a couple that haven’t been good decisions” by Osweiler. The interceptions haven’t stopped the Texans from going 3-1 to open the year, but the rate is going to have to drop in the coming weeks for the Texans to consistently find themselves on the right side of the final score.
