Browns announce Robert Griffin III is their starting quarterback

Seeing as RG III has not played a preseason game yet, Mike Florio says the Browns' starting QB may not have earned the position just yet.

After a year on the sideline in Washington, Robert Griffin III is again a starting quarterback.

The Browns announced today that Griffin is their starting quarterback.

Griffin won a quarterback “competition” that really wasn’t competitive. He was always getting the vast majority of the first-team snaps in practice, and coach Hue Jackson never hid the fact that it was Griffin’s job to lose.

“It’s time. Robert has earned the right to be named the starting quarterback of the Cleveland Browns,” Jackson said in comments distributed by the team. “Since he was signed back in March, Robert has made it clear through his actions that he is willing to do everything that has been asked of him to earn this role. Throughout this process he has gained the respect from his teammates, the coaching staff and the entire organization that is necessary for him to lead our offense and really the entire team.”

Once viewed as a franchise savior in Washington, Griffin will not try to turn around a franchise in Cleveland.
