Colts trying to get Jason Campbell to unretire

As the Colts try to find a competent backup for quarterback Matthew Hasselbeck, they don’t have many viable options. And one of their options technically isn’t an option at all.

Per a league source, the Colts are trying to lure Jason Campbell out of retirement. Campbell played for the Browns in 2013, the one year Colts offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski served as the head coach there.

Campbell wasn’t great that year for the Browns (then again, who really has been since 1999?), but he’s got familiarity with Chudzinski and, again, there aren’t a lot of options.

A first-round pick of Washington in 2005, Campbell has 79 career regular-season starts. And he’s only 33, a full seven years younger than Matthew Hasselbeck.

The Colts currently have only two quarterbacks on the roster: Hasselbeck and Andrew Luck, who according to the team is out 2-6 weeks with a lacerated kidney.
