The Giants opened free agency with some splashy moves, but we’re in a different stage of the process now and they are now adding smaller pieces to fill out the roster.
According to multiple reports, the Giants are signing former Steelers tight end/fullback Will Johnson to a two-year deal.
Johnson has played in 63-of-64 regular season games for the Steelers over the last four seasons and saw most of his time as a blocker on offense. He carried the ball eight times for 14 yards and caught 31 passes for 235 yards while scoring three times.
The Giants got good news about tight end Larry Donnell’s neck injury earlier this offseason and bring back Will Tye at the position as well. Nikita Whitlock was the fullback in 2015 while also seeing time as a defensive tackle in certain situations, although the Giants presumably hope their expenditures on the defensive line make such double duty unnecessary this time around.
