Texans defensive end J.J. Watt took batting practice with the Houston Astros at Minute Maid Park on Friday.
You can probably guess what happened next, because we wouldn’t have written this had he solely worked on moving the runner over from second to third with less than two outs.
Yes, J.J. Watt went yard.
Five times.
Watt, a right-handed hitter, had three of his five home runs hit a facade in left field, according to the Texans’ PR staff. Another struck a billboard in left.
KHOU-TV in Houston may have captured video of at least one of Watt’s home runs. It’s tough to see, but the buzz of the onlookers seems to indicate he did more than just hit a lazy fly to left.
I would be all for an NFL Home Run Derby. I bet there would be a solid audience; there usually is for all things NFL. And we already have two big-name contestants, what with the Lions’ Calvin Johnson impressing during a BP session with the Detroit Tigers last year.
Here’s another strong suspicion: there would be no shortage of NFL players wanting to participate.
