Dolphins running back Jay Ajayi is already one of just four players in NFL history with two consecutive 200-yard rushing games. Now he’d like to do something that has never been done before.
Ajayi said he has thought about the possibility that he could have a 200-yard game on Sunday against the Jets, which would make him the first player in NFL history with three straight 200-yard games.
“To have that for ourselves, the O-line, myself included, I think it would be a great accomplishment,” Ajayi said, via the Miami Herald. “At the same time, that’s not our main priority and focus. We want to win the game. . . . I know in the NFL it’s hard to get 100 yards. So for us to have done back-to-back 200-yard games is a credit to the hard work we have put in, the O-line, receivers, everyone including myself. And so if it does happen again, that’s going to be an amazing thing, an incredible thing.”
Dolphins center Mike Pouncey said he would love to be part of something that has never happened before.
“Of course, man,” Pouncey said. “We’re trying to be a part of the history books.”
The Jets have one of the best run defenses in the NFL, meaning Ajayi has a tall order on Sunday. If he can get 200 yards against that stout Jets run defense, he’ll have a strong claim for the greatest three-game stretch for any running back in NFL history.
