Knowshon Moreno appears to be done

Knowshon Moreno, Johnny Thomas

When last we wrote about free agent running back Knowshon Moreno, a year ago, we noted that he probably wouldn’t play in 2015 because of a bad knee. That turned out to be the case. And it appears to be the case for 2016 as well.

Although he’s only 28 years old, Moreno is most likely done playing, according to Mike Klis of 9 News in Denver. Klis reports that Moreno is keeping himself in shape in case he gets another opportunity, but that doesn’t appear likely -- Klis puts the chances that Moreno will retire at 80 percent.

Moreno’s knees are a mess. Klis reports that Moreno’s knees were already “shot” when he played his last season for the Broncos in 2013 -- before he suffered a torn ACL in 2014 while playing for the Dolphins. Moreno has a long history of knee injuries, including another torn ACL in 2011.

When healthy, Moreno has shown flashes of talent. Moreno ran for 1,038 yards in 2013 and added 548 receiving yards. And in the one and only full game that he played healthy for the Dolphins, he ran for 134 yards.

But bad knees are a bad problem for an NFL running back, and Moreno has probably played his last game.
