Wide receiver Louis Murphy has been a revelation for the Buccaneers in the last two weeks, catching nine passes for 134 yards and a touchdown to help quarterback Mike Glennon make a successful transition to the starting lineup.
Murphy’s play has been welcomed in Tampa, but the wideout’s behavior after a Bucs touchdown on Sunday wasn’t met with the same happiness by the league office. Murphy was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct after a touchdown by Bobby Rainey and PFT confirmed with the league that he has been fined $11,025 for directing abusive language toward an opposing player.
“A lot of trash talking. I guess I took it a little bit too far,” Murphy said earlier this week, via WDAE.
Murphy’s penalty was one of 15 accepted fouls by the Buccaneers last Sunday in a game they led 31-20 before losing 37-31 to the Saints in overtime. Cutting down on those kinds of infractions this week would boost their chances of winning for the second time this season.
