Broncos coach Josh McDaniels has been wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt on the sidelines, as an homage to Patriots coach Bill Belichick. (To date, McDaniels has yet to cut off the bottoms of the sleeves.)
The habit, however, is prompting some league insiders to refer to McDaniels via something other than his given name.
The two variations we’ve heard to date are “Baby Hoodie” and “Hoodie Lite.”
Given the acrimony between Belichick and former lieutenant Eric Mangini, our guess is that McDaniels’ hankering for hoodies is aimed at avoiding the perception that hard feelings exist between the servant and his former master.
That said, all eyes will be on both men when their teams meet on October 11, and when they bring their hoodies to midfield after the game in what many NFL fans will regard as football’s version of a Sith Lord convention.
