Free agent quarterback Michael Vick is waiting by the phone if some NFL team wants to sign him.
“I know I still have a lot of football left in me,” Vick said on NFL Network. “I still know I have a lot left in the tank, and I still look forward to playing again one day.”
Vick said that if he could talk to an NFL G.M. right now, he’d say that he knows what it takes to help some team win.
“I’m a proven winner. I think I’ve done a lot throughout the course of my career to prove that I can win games, play with some consistency and be a leader. Those are qualities that you want in a quarterback, a guy who’s confident and is going to make the team win, make the team believe in themselves and go out there and play hard. I did that consistently throughout the course of my career. I know I can continue to do it.”
Last year Vick started three games for the Jets and appeared in seven others, and he did not throw the ball particularly well, completing just 52.9 percent of his passes. Vick will turn 35 next week, and it appears that his best days are behind him. If some team with an offense that suits Vick’s talents suffers an injury at quarterback, he may get a call. If not, one of the most exciting quarterbacks in the history of the game may have thrown his last pass.
