Any interest the Raiders may or may not have had in free agent defensive end Greg Hardy cooled when owner Mark Davis put the kibosh on it.
And now, General Manager Reggie McKenzie’s following suit, stepping slowly away from the kind of impact pass-rusher they could certainly use.
“At this point we don’t have any intentions of doing anything with him,” McKenzie said, via Scott Bair of CSNBayArea.com. “His situation is a delicate one. He has something ongoing with the league also. Anything we do [regarding Hardy] is about information gathering, like we do with all the players.”
Hardy could still find gainful employment, but it certainly appears the league’s dragging of feet regarding his status is having a chilling effect on his market value.
He’s met with the league already, but they haven’t issued whatever if any punishment he’ll face. Based on the recent Adrian Peterson/Judge Doty ruling, a two-game suspension would seem to be in line.
But as with all things NFL justice, it’s hard to know which precedent they’ll choose to apply on any given Sunday.
