With one of their wide receivers ruled out for Sunday’s game at Carolina, the Seahawks called up another from the practice squad on Saturday.
Seattle has promoted third-year wideout Phil Bates to the roster, the club said.
The 25-year-old Bates was inactive for the Seahawks’ season-opening win vs. the Packers. The club waived him the day after the game, then re-signed him to the practice squad, where he had remained since.
The signing of Bates (6-1, 220) gives the Seahawks six healthy wide receivers. A seventh, Bryan Walters, has been declared out because of a concussion. The Seahawks dressed six receivers in last Sunday’s loss at St. Louis, with all six getting snaps on offense.
To clear the roster spot for Bates, the Seahawks placed fullback Derrick Coleman on injured reserve because of a foot injury. Robert Turbin will take over as the blocking back for the time being.
