Among the decisions that Mike Tannenbaum will be involved in making as the new Dolphins executive vice president of football operations is one about the future of wide receiver Mike Wallace with the franchise.
Wallace was benched at halftime in Week 17 because of what coach Joe Philbin called only a coach’s decision and what reports have pegged as Wallace either asking out or being pulled after an argument with coaches about his role. Wallace has $3 million of his $9.9 million salary for the 2015 guaranteed if he’s on the roster at the start of the league year, leaving Tannenbaum with some work to do.
“I want to go down there and be a good listener. Two sides to every story. We’ll make the most responsible decision for us possible,” Tannenbaum said on WQAM, via the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.
They’d miss Wallace’s 10 touchdown catches from last season, but the Dolphins may feel that they can get similar overall production by using that money elsewhere in 2015 and beyond. They also may feel that they’ll have fewer headaches and that might make parting ways the responsible move on multiple fronts.
