The speculation about Pittsburgh center Maurkice Pouncey’s status for Sunday can finally end.

Steelers coach Mike Tomlin told Suzy Kolber of ESPN Friday that Pouncey is out for the Super Bowl after missing practice again on Friday. Throughout the week, Pouncey said there was a “75% chance” that he would play.

That estimation ran counter to multiple reports from ESPN’s Adam Schefter to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that Pouncey would not play, and truly had no chance to play.

As John Madden discussed on Friday’s PFT Live, backup Doug Legursky will now have to make the protection calls for the Steelers. Lugursky will have to handle B.J. Raji, but Madden believes his protection calls and Ben Roethlisberger’s comfort with a new center are even bigger factors.
