The Washington Capitals were once again losing in San Jose, until Chris Brown scored his first National Hockey League goal and put them back on even ground with the Sharks.

Brown tied the game at two goals apiece with under eight minutes remaining in the third period, before Evgeny Kuznetsov and Nicklas Backstrom scored in the shootout to give the Capitals a 3-2 victory over the Sharks.

Now, the win in San Jose is significant. As the Washington Post reported, the Capitals had not won a game in San Jose since 1993! It also puts the Capitals right back into the thick of the playoff race in the Eastern Conference. They’re now up to 79 points, which ties them with the Detroit Red Wings, current holders of the second Wild Card spot.

The Capitals are ninth in the East, while the Columbus Blue Jackets fell all the way to 10th.
