Pirates reassigned 1B-OF Nick Evans to minor league camp.
Evans failed to impress this spring, batting just .107 (3-for-28) with one homer and a 10/1 K/BB ratio. The Pirates also send catchers Eric Fryer and Jake Fox over to the minor league side.
  • INT 1st Baseman
Pirates’ minor league infielder Nick Evans underwent surgery Wednesday to repair a broken left hand.
Evans, formerly of the Mets, was hitting .197/.263/.324 with two homers, nine RBI and a .586 OPS over 80 plate appearances with Triple-A Indianapolis. There’s no timetable for his return.
  • INT 1st Baseman
Nick Evans has declared free agency.
Evans was outrighted off the Mets’ 40-man roster earlier this month. The 25-year-old has struggled to get regular playing time in the big leagues, but has a reputation for knocking around left-handed pitching. He shouldn’t have any problem finding a new home.
  • INT 1st Baseman
Mets sent INF-OF Nick Evans outright to Triple-A Buffalo.
Evans hit .256/.314/.403 with four homers over 59 games for the Mets this season. The 25-year-old can elect free agency if he so chooses.
  • WSH 1st Baseman #23
Michael Sanserino of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that first base prospect Matt Hague could platoon at the position with Garrett Jones if Derrek Lee isn’t retained.
Hague batted .309/.372/.457 with 12 homers, 75 RBI and an .829 OPS over 594 plate appearances this season in a breakout year at Triple-A Indianapolis. The 26-year-old isn’t much of a prospect and would be on the short end of the platoon, but he could carve out some NL-only value with enough at-bats. The Pirates also have Jake Fox and Nick Evans as possible platoon mates for Jones.
  • INT 1st Baseman
Pirates signed INF-OF Nick Evans to a minor league contract.
He’ll also receive an invite to spring training. Evans, who turns 26 in January, has a .256/.305/.407 batting line over 419 plate appearances in the big leagues as a member of the Mets. While he was underutilized in New York, he stands a decent chance to earn a bench spot on the Bucs’ Opening Day roster.
  • INT 1st Baseman
Dodgers signed INF Nick Evans to a minor league contract.
The deal includes a spring training invite. Evans, formerly of the Mets, appeared in just 21 games with the Pirates’ Triple-A affiliate this season prior to undergoing surgery in May to repair a broken left hand. He’ll be a long shot to win a spot on the Opening Day roster.
  • MLB 1st Baseman #9
Lucas Duda is not in the starting lineup for Thursday’s game against the Nationals.
Duda has cooled down a bit recently, batting .259 through 15 games in September, so he’ll get the afternoon off. Nick Evans will make the start in right field and bat sixth while Val Pascucci plays first base.
  • INT 1st Baseman
    Dodgers released INF Nick Evans.
Evans, 27, was reassigned to minor league camp earlier this month. The former Met appeared in just 21 games with the Pirates’ Triple-A affiliate last season prior to undergo surgery in May to repair a broken left hand. He’ll attempt to latch on elsewhere.
  • INT 1st Baseman
Diamondbacks signed INF Nick Evans to a minor league contract.
Evans hit .214/.313/.214 with two RBI in 14 at-bats for the Dodgers this spring before being released on March 18. He’s displayed solid power potential in the minors before, and could be a candidate to see time as a reserve outfielder for the D’Backs if Cody Ross has to spend more time than anticipated on the DL. For now, he’ll serve as depth at the Triple-A level.
