Greece won its first gold medal of the Rio Olympics, as Anna Korakaki won the women’s 25 meter pistol competition. Korakaki is responsible for both medals claimed by Greece in these Games, as she won a bronze medal in the 10 meter pistol event.

Korakaki defeated Germany’s Monika Karsch 8-6 to win gold in the 25 meters, winning the seventh series on her final shot after Karsch went on a run of three series victories to tie the match at six points apiece. Korakaki qualified for the final with a score of 19 in the semifinal round, with Karsch in second with an 18.

China’s Zhang Jingjing, who entered the Olympics ranked number one in the world in the event and won the world title in 2014, fell in the bronze medal match to Switzerland’s Heidi Diethelm Gerber. China has now won five shooting medals in Rio.
