Lindsey Vonn fell and crashed through a gate in a giant slalom in Maribor, Slovenia, but shortly after skied down the hill on her own power on Saturday.
She nearly slid into a course worker, while a nearby photographer fell.
Vonn failed to finish her second run after placing 12th in the first of two runs in the morning.
Vonn maintained her 45-point lead in the standings for the World Cup overall title, the sport’s biggest prize this season with no Olympics or World Championships.
That’s because her closest rival, Swiss Lara Gut, also skied out in her second run. Gut was in third place after the first run with a chance to pass Vonn in the overall standings.
German Viktoria Rebensburg won, .32 ahead of Slovenian Ana Drev. Liechtenstein’s Tina Weirather was third. Full results are here.
Vonn, who won both speed races last weekend to run her career World Cup victories total to 75, is seeking her fifth World Cup overall title and first since 2012.
She’s won 10 of her last 11 starts in downhill and super-G but is weaker in giant slalom and doesn’t race slalom, the two technical events.
Gut, 24, isn’t the dominant force of Vonn in any discipline, but she ranks in the top four this season in downhill, super-G and giant slalom and won the only super combined thus far.
The World Cup season is a little more than halfway finished, with the overall title likely to be determined at the World Cup Finals in March.
The women’s World Cup continues with a slalom in Maribor on Sunday, which Vonn is not expected to race. Her next scheduled start is a downhill in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany, next Saturday.
