It wasn’t as easy as the simple score line indicates, but top seed Serena Williams is moving onto the second round of women’s singles in Rio.

American superstar Williams opened her Olympics with a win over Daria Gavrilova, though the Australian made her work.

Serena’s sister Venus Williams lost to Belgium’s Kirsten Flipkens on Saturday, a day that saw five Americans bounced from tennis tournaments.

With the win, Serena will face the winner of Alize Cornet (France) and Johanna Larsson (Sweden) in the second round.
