U.S. basketball players sing Vanessa Carlton, but not Carmelo Anthony

Carmelo Anthony

Some U.S. Olympic men’s basketball players bonded while singing along to Vanessa Carlton on a team plane, but the most tenured member didn’t appear to be having any of it.

A video on guard DeMar DeRozan‘s Instagram showed some players reciting Carlton’s 2002 song, “A Thousand Miles,” including Jimmy Butler and Kyrie Irving. Kevin Durant stood wrapped in a large white blanket.

Butler was 10 years old when that song came out. Irving was 10.

Anthony, going to his fourth Olympics, was one of the few players on the 12-man roster who had reached high school by the time the Carlton song came out, but maybe he and others were more interested in sleeping on the flight, as Draymond Green‘s video would later attest.

The U.S. is off to a 4-0 start on its five-game pre-Olympic exhibition slate, winning each game by at least 35 points. It closes against Nigeria in Houston on Monday before heading to Rio.
