The U.S. men’s volleyball team failed to advance out of second-round pool play at the World Volleyball Championships, ending its run with a five-set loss to Argentina in Poland on Sunday.
The U.S., which lost 19-25, 28-26, 25-20, 23-25, 15-11 to Argentina, finished fourth in its group with 14 points, one point less than the third and final qualifier from its group into the third round of six nations. The Americans had won four straight matches before the Argentina defeat.
The U.S., the 2008 Olympic champion, finished sixth at the 2010 World Championships and fifth at the London Olympics.
The six remaining nations are defending champion Brazil, France, Germany, Iran, Poland and Olympic champion Russia. The gold- and bronze-medal matches are next Sunday.
