Three-time reigning world champion Patrick Chan of Canada will begin his quest for Olympic gold today against Russian stalwart Yevgeny Plushenko and other contenders in the men’s short program, which you can watch LIVE on NBCSN and online at NBCOlympics.com starting at 10 a.m. ET.

Chan (pictured) made some waves going into Sochi by saying that he regarded Plushenko as more of a “distraction” than as a true rival for the gold. But while Plushenko isn’t likely to medal in the men’s competition, he certainly proved in the team event that he can still get it done at 31.

Perhaps Chan’s biggest competition will come from Japan’s Yuzuru Hanyu, who defeated the Canadian in the Grand Prix Final back in December.

As for Team USA, they will feature Jeremy Abbott and Jason Brown. Abbott’s out to erase a ninth-place finish at Vancouver four years ago, while Brown will look to replicate the magic he had in the U.S. Nationals last month.

Get up to speed on all the contenders by reading Nick McCarvel’s preview on NBCOlympics.com. Then WATCH IT LIVE at 10 a.m. ET.
