NO. 4 NOTRE DAME FACES WISCONSIN IN SEASON OPENER AT GREEN BAY’S LAMBEAU FIELD THIS SUNDAY AT 7:30 P.M. ET ON NBC AND PEACOCK

Marks Only Third College Football Game in Lambeau Field’s 69-Year History

NBC Sports’ Dan Hicks (Play-by-Play), Jason Garrett (Analyst), and Caroline Pineda, in Her Debut as Notre Dame Sideline Reporter, to Call Game

STAMFORD, Conn. – Sept. 1, 2026 – The 36th season of Notre Dame Football on NBC kicks off in historic fashion with the Associated Press-ranked No. 4 Fighting Irish hosting the Wisconsin Badgers at Lambeau Field – home of the NFL’s Green Bay Packers – in Green Bay, Wis., this Sunday, Sept. 6, at 7:30 p.m. ET on NBC and Peacock.

This will be the first time the Fighting Irish play at Lambeau Field, one of the NFL’s most historic stadiums, which has only hosted two college football games in its nearly-seven-decade history: St. Norbert vs. Fordham in 1983, and LSU vs. Wisconsin in 2016, the latter of which saw the Badgers upset the No. 5 Tigers. Lambeau Field is named for Curly Lambeau, a former Notre Dame Football player (1918) and co-founder of the Green Bay Packers.

Sunday’s game is a part of Notre Dame’s Shamrock Series, which began in 2009 when the Fighting Irish started playing select home games at major venues in the U.S. Since then, the Fighting Irish have hosted 12 Shamrock Series games across the country, including at AT&T Stadium, Lucas Oil Stadium, Fenway Park, and most recently in 2024, Yankee Stadium.

This will also be the second installment of a two-game series with Wisconsin, the first of which was played at Soldier Field in Chicago as part of the Shamrock Series and saw Notre Dame win, 41-13, in 2021. The Fighting Irish lead the all-time series, 9-6-2, with the first matchup taking place in 1900.

Notre Dame is expected to be led by star quarterback and 2025 Manning Award finalist CJ Carr, 2025 unanimous All-American cornerback Leonard Moore, and 2025 Freshman All-American safety Brauntae Johnson. The Fighting Irish are coming off a 2025 season that saw them win their final 10 games, including victories over No. 20 USC and No. 22 Pittsburgh, and finish No. 10 in the AP rankings.

Wisconsin returns 2025 All-Big Ten linebacker Mason Posa, who was named to the preseason watchlist for the Butkus Award, annually given to the top linebacker in the country. The Badgers also added running back Abu Sama III from Iowa State and quarterback and 2025 Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Year Colton Joseph from Old Dominion this offseason. The Badgers finished 4-8 last season, notching wins against No. 21 Illinois and No. 23 Washington.

Wisconsin-Notre Dame will be called by Dan Hicks (play-by-play), Jason Garrett (analyst), and Caroline Pineda, in her debut as Notre Dame Football sideline reporter. Terry McAulay will serve as rules analyst.

NBC Sports’ College Countdown will provide studio coverage of Wisconsin-Notre Dame and the full day of college football. The College Countdown team features host John Fanta in studio alongside analysts Chris Simms and Joshua Perry, college football insider Nicole Auerbach, and Connor Rogers.
