Sunday’s Extra Inning Thriller Averaged a Total Audience Delivery of 1.69 Million Viewers on NBC and Peacock – UP 26% vs. Last Year’s Package-Opening Red Sox-White Sox Game on NBC and Peacock

Led by Peacock, Sunday’s Average Minute Streaming Audience UP 72% vs. Last Season’s Red Sox-White Sox Game

STAMFORD, Conn. – May 9, 2023 – Sunday’s MLB Sunday Leadoff game on NBC and Peacock, featuring an extra inning thriller between the Braves and Orioles, averaged a Total Audience Delivery of 1.69 million viewers, marking the most-watched MLB regular-season Sunday day game since 2019 (Yankees-Red Sox in London, ESPN, 6/30/19).

Sunday’s game marked the second consecutive year in which the NBC broadcast network has presented a live MLB game (last season’s package-opening Red Sox-White Sox game, 5/8/22).

Additional viewership highlights from Sunday’s MLB Sunday Leadoff game:

    • With 1.69 million viewers, Sunday’s game – won by the Braves, 3-2, on a 12th inning walk-off RBI single by Michael Harris II – was UP 26% vs. last year’s MLB Sunday Leadoff game on NBC and Peacock (1.34 TAD for Red Sox-White Sox).
    • Led by Peacock, Sunday’s Average Minute Audience (AMA) across NBCUniversal streaming platforms was UP 72% from last year’s Red Sox-White Sox game.

Total Audience Delivery is based upon live-plus-same day figures from Nielsen and digital data from Adobe Analytics.

MLB Sunday Leadoff continues this Sunday, May 14 as Shohei Ohtani, Mike Trout, and the Los Angeles Angels visit Jose Ramirez and the Cleveland Guardians at 11:35 a.m. ET on Peacock. Pregame coverage begins at 11 a.m. ET on Peacock.

Beginning April 23, when the National League champion Philadelphia Phillies hosted the Colorado Rockies from Citizens Bank Park, Peacock will stream an NBC Sports-produced baseball game live in 19 of 20 weeks. Each game will feature NBC Sports-produced pre- and post-game shows on Peacock.

On each of the 19 Sundays that Peacock presents a game, it will be scheduled as the exclusive home of live MLB action until 1:35 p.m. ET that day, when the remainder of the day’s schedule will begin. The package includes start times of 11:35 a.m. ET (six games), 12:05 p.m. ET (10 games), and 1:05 p.m. ET (three games).
