Fragel

Fragel was viewed as a possible second-day pick, but he lasted all the way to the seventh round on draft weekend. He was just a one-year starter at right tackle for Ohio State, and he’ll be someone for the Bengals to develop.

Fragel (6-foot-7 5/8, 308) spent his first three seasons as a blocking tight end for the Buckeyes before converting to right tackle as a senior and starting all 12 games. Inexperienced on the line but a plus athlete, Fragel ran 5.14 at the Combine with a 30-inch vertical and 33 reps on the bench. Rotoworld draft guru Josh Norris is a big fan of Fragel’s tape, but he’s going to have to fill out a bit before becoming a competitive NFL run blocker. In Cincy, he’ll try to earn a roster spot behind Andre Smith.

Perhaps they’re sending a message to the Andre Smith camp, or at the very least getting a feel for Smith’s possible right-tackle successor. The Bengals have two second-round picks, and could use one of them on athletic-if-undersized Fragel. The former tight end packs just 308 pounds onto his 6-foot-8 frame.

Fragel and Johnson were seventh-round picks in April. McCalebb was trying to make the switch from running back to cornerback. He ran a 4.34 forty.

Fragel, the 2014 seventh-rounder of the Bengals, will fill a depth role in Tampa Bay.

Fragel was well regarded inside the draft community when he went in the seventh round of the 2013 draft. He’s worth a flier for the line-needy Bucs.
