Pirates signed RHP Shairon Martis to a minor league contract.
Martis hasn’t appeared on a major league mound since the 2009 season, when he posted a 5.25 ERA in 85 2/3 innings for the Nationals. The 24-year-old righty will have trouble breaking that streak with the Pirates.

Twins acquired RHP Shairon Martis from the Pirates.
The two teams haven’t decided what the Pirates will get in return. Martis hasn’t appeared in the majors since 2009 as a member of the Nationals and had a 4.96 ERA and 37/23 K/BB ratio over 61 2/3 innings this season between the Pirates’ Double- and Triple-A affiliates. He will serve as organizational depth.

    Twins re-signed RHP Shairon Martis.
He’ll get a spring training invite. Martis was picked up by the Twins from the Pirates in June and is coming off a bad year that saw him put up a 5.17 ERA over 139 1/3 innings between Double- and Triple-A. He’s merely organizational depth.

Twins recalled RHP Shairon Martis from Triple-A Rochester.
The 26-year-old hasn’t appeared in the big leagues since he was a member of the Nationals during the 2009 season. Working out of the bullpen for Triple-A Rochester, Martis compiled a 4.26 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 65/31 K/BB ratio in 80 1/3 innings. He’ll be used in middle relief.

Twins sent RHP Shairon Martis outright to Triple-A Rochester.
After a few years in the minors Martis resurfaced with the Twins this season, sporting a 5.59 ERA over 9 2/3 innings with the club. Still just 26, Martis will serve as organizational depth.

Martis had two minor league offers from MLB teams, but opted to go play overseas. The 26-year-old right-hander spent most of last season at Triple-A with the Twins, posting a 4.26 ERA with 65 strikeouts over 80 1/3 innings.

Shairon Martis improved to 4-0 on Friday night as he held the Diamondbacks to three runs over 5 1/3 innings.
Martis wasn’t particularly strong, as he gave up a run in the first and had runners on base in every inning, yielding nine hits and walking two. Chalk it up to some combination of limiting the damage and the Diamondbacks’ continued inability to get a big hit. Martis struck out six in the win. The Nationals are now 8-8 over their last 16 games.

Shairon Martis allowed just two runs over seven innings, but was handed a no-decision in an eventual 4-2 extra-inning loss to the Reds on Wednesday night.
Martis allowed just two hits -- the only damage came on a Jay Bruce two-run homer in the second inning. He fanned one and walked two in the no-decision. He’s allowed just three runs over his last two starts. Martis is still 5-1, but hasn’t won since May 13.

The Nationals named Shairon Martis their fourth starter and Jordan Zimmermann their fifth starter before Saturday’s game.
It’s nice to have the confirmation that the Nats aren’t so cheap as to send Zimmermann back to the minors for two months. Those two will follow John Lannan, Scott Olsen and Daniel Cabrera in the rotation. Collin Balester is set to lead the Triple-A staff until someone gets hurt.
