Vanderbilt freshman power forward Simi Shittu announced Wednesday that he is entering the 2019 NBA Draft.
Shittu (6'10/240) is the second Vanderbilt player to enter this year’s draft after one season on campus, joining point guard Darius Garland. However unlike Garland, who’s viewed by many to be a likely lottery pick despite missing most of the season due to injury, Shittu has some work to do in order to ensure that his name is called in June. This season he averaged 10.9 points, 6.7 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game, shooting 46.8% from the field and 57.6% from the foul line. Shittu, who suffered a torn ACL during his high school senior year, is ranked 81st among draft-eligible prospects by ESPN.com. Due to that injury, how explosive he is in workouts and athletic testing will go certainly have an impact on Shittu’s draft outlook.
