Blatter suffering from stress related health issues

Sepp Blatter is under a lot of pressure from many different angles and the 79-year-old’s health is starting to suffer.

According to his spokesman, Klaus Stoehlker, the long-term FIFA president will be medically examined in his home for the next 10-days and has canceled all of his appointments.

Blatter has been in charge at FIFA for the past 17 years but with both the U.S. and Swiss authorities currently investigating world soccer’s governing body amid widespread allegations of corruption among many leading figures within the organization and connected to it, Blatter has also been suspended by FIFA’s own Ethics Committee for 90-days as a private payment between himself and UEFA president Michel Platini is scrutinized.

“He is under medical evaluation, the doctors took him out for a few days, the doctors expect to him be back around Thursday or Friday of next week,” Stoehlker said. “He is under tremendous pressure from so many sides and perhaps this is a little bit difficult for a man who is not the youngest.”

Blatter is due to stand down as FIFA’s president on Feb. 26, 2016 but amid the scandal of his suspension, and now these health issues, maybe we’ve seen the last of Blatter on the global stage.

The inevitable stress of being widely blamed and lambasted for being the long-time head of an organization embroiled in one of the most widespread and shocking cases of corruption in history has clearly taken its toll.
