Manchester United outlasts Brighton in penalties to reach FA Cup Final

PTbHAA8na75Z
Relive the best shots and stops from Matchweek 32 of the 2022-23 Premier League season.

It will be a Manchester derby in the FA Cup Final after Victor Lindelof’s penalty sealed what 120 minutes of semifinal action between Manchester United and Brighton could not on Sunday at Wembley Stadium.

It took 14 total penalties to settle the affair. Only Solly March failed with his attempt as 13 players finished theirs after neither team scored in game action.

Robert Sanchez made six saves for Brighton in the loss, while David De Gea’s five saves include a terrific reaction paw to get a Julio Enciso strike in the second half. De Gea suitably rebounded from a miserable outing that coincided with United’s Europa League exit on Thursday in Seville.

The win ensures a June 3 date with Manchester City in the final, where United will be going for a double (League Cup) and City may be chasing a treble.

Brighton, meanwhile, is very happy to play the spoiler and won’t be a terrible underdog given both form and United’s midweek trip to Spain.

The Seagulls had 61 percent of the ball and had a slight edge in expected goals and both sides rattled off 15 shots.

Key storylines & star players

Brighton’s midfield menaces are always in focus, and Alexis Mac Allister and Moises Caicedo will give Erik ten Hag plenty of headaches as he preps for a quick turnaround in order to keep another silverware chase going into May.

Man United’s star remains Bruno Fernandes, though Marcus Rashford was able to come off the bench in Seville and will be hopeful of reclaiming focal point status with a few more runs.
