Carlo Ancelotti delcares Raheem Sterling is “not in” Real Madrid’s plans

There’s been gobs of reports this past week that Real Madrid’s spending spree would continue in the winter and tap into Liverpool’s wealth of talent.

Madrid manager over the summer was handed incredible amounts of attacking ability, almost too much depending on who you ask. So to think they would target yet another winger would be a bit much.

Manager Carlo Ancelotti would agree.

“Sterling is a player of great quality, certainly one of the best in Europe,” Ancelotti told The Sun on Sunday. “But we already have extraordinary talent here. To think of another striker for the Real Madrid attack is really extremely difficult. It’s clear that Sterling is not in our plans.”

If Ancelotti indeed is interested in Sterling and is playing the media, he will get an up close and personal look at the 19-year-old winger midweek as Real Madrid take on Liverpool in the Champions League.

The Reds will need Sterling to be at his best up front to beat the defending champions, as their leaky back line was troubled all day today by Queens Park Rangers attackers, so one can only wonder what the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, and James Rodriguez will do with space and chances like that.

However, Ancelotti did admit he wishes he’d captured another Liverpool player years ago when he was in charge of AC Milan.

“We had sounded him out but [Steven] Gerrard’s bond with Liverpool was unbreakable. I don’t remember exactly what year it was but we did try. Of course, I wanted to pair him up with Pirlo, it would be a fantastic combination. Putting Gerrard in midfield with Pirlo. It would have been fantastic.”

Oh to think what might have been. Surely Liverpool fans will be happy to hear their legend was so dedicated.
