David Moyes has done plenty of talking since his departure from Manchester United after a failed year attempting to fill Sir Alex Ferguson’s shoes.
This latest bit seems to be nothing less than pure gold.

According to the former manager, he did his best to sign Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, and Cesc Fabregas.
“It’s been well documented that we wanted Cesc Fabregas, Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo,” Moyes told the Daily Mail. “There was talk of Ronaldo when I first arrived. We were close to getting a couple of major names.”
Except for the whole part where they didn’t actually get any of them.

“We knew it was going to take time to make the necessary changes,” Moyes said. “It was going to take time to evolve.”
Signing one or more of those players would definitely count as “evolving” but unfortunately it wasn’t to be.
There were plenty of rumors of United interest in Ronaldo last summer, but it always seemed like talk as the superstar ended up signing a contract extension with Real Madrid.
There was also a flurry of links for Bale to United, but they never seemed like serious players as Bale made it clear Madrid was his first choice. Reports surfaced after the transfer that United was ready to make a serious offer, but Spurs wanted to dump Emmanuel Adebayor on the Red Devils as well, and they weren’t having it.
Manchester United lost its opening match 2-1 to Swansea City on Saturday, the club’s first under Louis van Gaal. Meanwhile, Moyes is learning to golf in Spain.
