Despite sitting seventh in the Sky Bet Championship, Birmingham City is making a major change.

On Wednesday, the club announced that it has parted ways with manager Gary Rowett after over two years in charge.

Additionally, Birmingham has let go of the rest of Rowett’s coaching staff, which includes Kevin Summerfield, Mark Sale, Kevin Poole and Darren Robinson.
Club director Panos Pavlakis released a statement on behalf of the club’s executive board following the decision.
“Such a parting of the ways is always difficult, particularly so on a personal level as I have worked very closely with Gary and have got to know him well. Our relationship was very strong but in football you can never stand still.
“I would ask that our supporters trust our judgement and look forward to and embrace the future as we begin to implement the exciting vision of TTAL.”

Rowett had been in charge at Birmingham since October 2014 and won 42 out of his 106 matches at the helm. The 42-year-old began his managerial career in 2012 with fellow Championship side Burton Albion, where he finished his playing career.
During his playing career, Rowett appeared for several of England’s top clubs, including Everton, Derby County and Birmingham.
