If Arsenal does in fact complete a move for Jamie Vardy, Arsene Wenger’s attack will receive a massive lift, but what does that mean for Olivier Giroud?

The Frenchman and Gunners striker admitted on Sunday that he is aware of Arsenal’s interest in the 29-year-old, adding that he thinks the move would be an improvement to the starting XI.

Giroud told Sky Sports:

“I have been told that Jamie wants to join us and it’s very good news for us. I think we can be complimentary and that’s all I can say,” Giroud said.

“He’s a fantastic player, so it’s good news for us.”

The Gunners were by no means a poor attacking team in 2015/16, which saw the squad finish runners’ up in the Premier League to champions Leicester City.

Giroud, the team’s top goalscorer, notched 16 PL goals of his own, eight off the pace set by Vardy’s total at Leicester, while Alexis Sanchez added another 13 for the side.

By adding another striker like Vardy, it provides the Gunners with another dimension as well as creating mismatches for opposing defenses. If Wenger is willing to change his traditional 4-5-1 tactics to suit the inclusion of both Vardy and Giroud, Arsenal could really have themselves a tandem up front.

“As I said in the past I am happy with competition,” Giroud added. “We have always had fantastic strikers at Arsenal and I want the best for this club. Hopefully he is going to help us win this title.

“The boss wanted to sign at least one or two strikers, so I expected a top striker and I think it will benefit the club and hopefully he is going to score a lot of goals like he did at Leicester.”

Vardy is reportedly set for a medical with Arsenal on Sunday, making a deal with the London side imminent.
