In case you missed the news yesterday, Loic Remy has arrived back in the UK after reportedly failing a medical at Liverpool.
The French international striker had flown from London to the Boston and met up with Liverpool on their current preseason tour of North America to sort out personal terms. A fee was agreed between the two clubs, due to Liverpool meeting the release clause in Remy’s contract, and the deal was set to be sealed.

No official reason has been given for the collapse of Remy’s move to Anfield, however it has been widely reported in the UK by outlets such as the Daily Mirror that Liverpool detected a “serious” and “long-term” health problem which is thought to be a heart issue that delayed Remy’s move from Nice to Marseille back in 2010.
QPR manager Harry Redknapp has spoken out about his frustration of the deal stalling, and has denied that Remy failed a medical.“He is a fantastic striker,” Redknapp said. “Reports have come out he failed a medical. That’s not possible. He is a very fit lad, there has to be another reason. It certainly didn’t make any sense - there has to be another reason. It can’t be a medical issue. There must have been some kind of breakdown or they’ve decided to move in another direction.”
This whole situation is a perplexing one, although things like this happen often in the game. The real reason just never comes out.
Liverpool, most likely, may have heard that another transfer target has suddenly become available and at the eleventh-hour they decided to not seal the deal for Remy and instead look elsewhere. The reports that a medical was failed could well be true given Remy’s previous heart problems, but we won’t know until either club confirms the truth.
Now QPR may be the real winners here as they have a top striker who scored 14 goals on loan in the Premier League for Newcastle last season. The R’s however may still be looking to move Remy on and get him off the wage bill. Given these reports of a failed medical, getting a decent transfer fee for Remy may now be impossible for the West London club.
