Arnold Peralta, Honduran international and former Rangers midfielder, was shot and killed in the parking lot of a shopping mall in Honduras today, according to multiple reports.

The incident was a drive-by shooting, according to the reports, as a gunman drove by on a motorcycle and shot Peralta at the Uniplaza mall in his hometown of La Ceiba. His death was confirmed by his father, and police were reportedly searching for one or two suspects, having ruled out robbery as a motive because his belongings were not taken.

Peralta played 31 matches for Rangers between 2013 and 2015 before being released this past January. He signed with Club Deportivo Olimpia in Honduras, where he’s made 23 appearances and guided the team to the league semifinals where they were eliminated last week.

The 28-year-old was has 24 caps for the Honduran national team, and was in the squad for the friendly match with Cuba scheduled for next week. Peralta was in the Honduran squad for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil but did not make an appearance.
