With his two goals -- the first coming from a header just before the break and the second a prod home from Pedro’s cross -- Messi has joined Real Madrid’s legendary forward Raul as the all-time leading scorer in Europe’s elite club competition.
Messi now has 71 goals in just 90 Champions League appearances, jumping one ahead of his arch-nemesis Cristiano Ronaldo who is stuck on 70 after firing a blank against Liverpool on Tuesday.

This season the Argentine forward has four goals in the UCL and now has at least two more games in the last 16 to better Raul’s record.
At the age of 27, it is safe to say that Messi will hold the record for the most goals ever scored in Champions League history on his own at one point.
Now, it’s all about his personal duel with Ronaldo to see who can streak ahead as their remarkable battle continues.
