Lloris, Forster officially replaced on international squads

Lloris

While official word has yet to be determined on either of their injuries, we do know they’re both bad enough to keep the goalkeepers out of upcoming action.

With the international window approaching next week, both Hugo Lloris and Fraser Forster have been replaced on their respective country’s roster thanks to ugly injuries they suffered early into Saturday’s Premier League action, almost simultaneously.

Lloris went down first, replaced after just three minutes by Michel Vorm following a collision with teammate Kyle Walker that resulted in a nasty gash in his knee. Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino confirmed after the match that the slice was deep enough to cause some serious damage. “He’s in hospital with the doctor and we wait for news,” Pochettino said. “He got a big cut on the tendon of his knee. We hope it’s nothing big.”

As a result, the 28-year-old French captain was replaced on the roster for upcoming friendlies against Brazil and Denmark, with uncapped Stade Rennes goalkeeper Benoit Costil called up in his place. Any lengthy spell on the sidelines would be a huge blow to Spurs, who are looking to regain their place in Europe and are still mounting a very serious attempt on the Premier League’s top four.

While Lloris was stretchered off just minutes into his game, Southampton goalkeeper Fraser Forster went down ten minutes into his contest with what appeared to be a very serious knee injury. No word has come through on what it might be, but manager Ronald Koeman was worried after the match. “Fraser Forster is at hospital and it is looking bad,” Koeman said after Southampton ended up with a 2-0 win over Burnley. “We have to wait for the scan. I hope it will be okay for him but the doctor is not positive.”

Forster was also removed from his spot on the England squad by manager Roy Hodgson, with a pair of shot-stoppers in Queens Park Rangers Robert Green along with Stoke City’s Jack Butland called up in his stead. The squad is gearing up for a Euro 2016 qualifier against Lithuania on Thursday plus a friendly with Italy four days later.
