Man United fans reach breaking point as expletives rain down on LVG, players

Denmark Soccer Europa League

Manchester United hit another disappointing low in the unforgiving post-Sir Alex Ferguson era on Thursday, when the once-dominant Premier League side suffered defeat away to FC Midtjylland, the reigning Danish Superliga champions, in the Europa League round of 32.

As their club’s players walked off the field in Herning, Denmark, the traveling Man United fans inside the MCH Arena sang, “We are f------ s---.” Louis van Gaal was inevitably asked about this during his post-game press conference. In short summation, the sitting-duck manager simply agreed, as if to say, “What am I supposed to do about it?” — quotes from the Guardian:

“The fans can criticize. They can do because when you see the second half, maybe they are right. We have to improve and then the fans shall support us again. We have seen that in the 18 months I am here.

“They are disappointed, like we are. I’m very grateful for the fans who supported us but we wanted to win and we have to win at Old Trafford and then we are in the next round. We have to do it but it’s not easy.”

What in the world is happening at Manchester United? Does anyone at the club know? Does anyone care? Is David Moyes back in charge at Old Trafford? Someone — anyone — please answer these questions.

This seems a decent enough time to remind you that Jose Mourinho is still unemployed, reportedly desperate to be named the next United manager, and couldn’t possibly do any worse of a job than Van Gaal has managed in his season and a half in charge. OK, so maybe we don’t know that last part to be entirely true, but either way we’re going to have a grand time finding out next season.
