This is more of what we expected from the Women’s World Cup performance of France, while Mexico looked a lot more like the side that’s been routinely beaten by the United States.

France scored three times in the first 13 minutes, one a Jennifer Ruiz own goal, earning Group F’s top spot after a 5-0 win over Mexico in Ottawa on Wednesday.

Eugenie Le Sommer netted twice for France, while Marie-Laure Delie and Amandine Henry also scored. The French await the second-place team in Group E, while Mexico’s World Cup is over.

The French played a thorough match, one that kept Mexico off balance and eventually had El Tricolor lashing out at the group-winners. France showed no lingering effects from its upset at the hands of Colombia.

And then, Henry. France’s No. 6 sent a laser into the upper 90 with about 10 minutes to play, giving France a 5-0 lead.
