MLS Snapshot: New York City FC 2-0 New York Red Bulls (video)

USATSI_9368175_168381069_lowres

The game in 100 words (or less): It took five tries but New York City FC finally found its way past the New York Red Bulls, and did so in convincing fashion. The team’s 7-0 drubbing back in May was all anyone could talk about heading into the match, but rookie Jack Harrison and co. made certain that NYCFC came out on top with one of the team’s most complete performances of the season. The 19-year-old attacker netted the home side’s first finish in dramatic fashion, before helping on David Villa’s equalizer after the halftime break. With a 2-0 advantage already in the cards, the Red Bulls chances of completing a comeback were permanently dismissed when Chris Duvall was sent home early for his late challenge on Andrea Pirlo. The victory leaves NYCFC atop the Eastern Conference on 27 points, while the Red Bulls fall to fourth place.
