The game in 100 words (or less): The Colorado Rapids did everything they had to do — win two games in hand over the last two weeks — to pull even with, and a point ahead of, FC Dallas in the race for the 2016 Supporters’ Shield, only to undo all their hard work on Sunday with a 1-0 loss away to the Portland Timbers. Couple that with FCD’s dramatic, late victory over the Seattle Sounders, and the gap from second to first is once again two points. Fanendo Adi scored the game’s only goal, from the penalty spot, to pull the Timbers into a tie (on points and wins) with Sporting Kansas City in the race for the Western Conference’s sixth and final playoff place (Sporting currently holds a one-goal advantage in the goal differential column). Given FCD’s advantage in the wins column (17-15), anything short of a Rapids victory and an FCD defeat on the final day of the regular season, next Sunday, will see the Hoops lift the 2016 Shield.

Three Two moments that mattered
35' — Adi converts from the spot for 1-0 — Vytautas Andriuskevicius was hacked down in the penalty area and won the penalty, and Adi converted with ease.
39' — Adi goes from the spot again, this time saved — Here’s where things get really weird: A mostly poor penalty easily saved by Tim Howard, but enough about that. How about the miss of the season by Adi?
