Mourinho: Diego Costa might not play again this season if Chelsea clinches soon

Costa

Chelsea will be champions of England this season. There’s little question about that.

And if the Blues take care of business against Crystal Palace this weekend, star striker Diego Costa may not make another appearance this season.

The 26-year-old artist formerly known simply as “Diego” hasn’t played since April 4, a 56-minute appearance against Stoke, and has battled injuries all year. Still, he’s managed to net 19 times in 23 Premier League appearances.

If Chelsea clinches the PL title without him on Sunday, he might not suit up again. From Soccerly:

“If we win Sunday, I would say he doesn’t play against Liverpool. If we don’t win on Sunday and we need points against Liverpool, I’d say he would play against them. It’s about result after result, needs and needs. If we don’t need, probably he doesn’t play (again).

“Just it isn’t worth the risk. In this process, in the last month, if we lose a game –- and we don’t want to lose a second -– he will be back immediately. Immediately.”

So if you’re a massive Costa fan, perhaps you hope Palace pulls an upset? Or maybe you’re a big picture Costa fan and want the win so he can work himself back into prime fitness for next season? Or, perhaps, you hate Costa, think he’s a bully in gloves and want him to never play again? Either way, Costa might be done for the season.
