German news outlet Bild reported on Thursday that United States head coach Jürgen Klinsmann has called in Bayern Munich midfielder Julian Green for friendlies in November at Scotland and Austria.

The 18-year-old (pictured, far right) featured in preseason for Pep Guardiola’s club, scoring two hat tricks in two games — albeit against opposition of much lower quality. Green has scored 13 goals in 14 appearances for Bayern Munich II in the German Regionalliga and appeared three times for the German under-19 team this year.

Just as Aron Jóhannsson did from Iceland, Green would have to file a one-time switch with FIFA before he is eligible to play for the U.S. Also like Jóhannsson, Green was born in the U.S. before moving overseas.

Green is a left-footed, creative central attacking player who has played on the front line and in midfield. If the Bild report is true, he could make his first appearance in an American shirt on Nov. 15 or 19, when the U.S. plays its next two European friendlies.

However, keep in mind Bild’s spotty record of reports regarding German-Americans. The outlet correctly reported that John Brooks would be called in for the Bosnia-Herzegovina friendly in August, but it incorrectly said that Jermaine Jones would have meniscus surgery in September.

So take this report with a grain of salt, but if it turns out to be true, it could be a real coup for the U.S.
